I had another question come up about background checks in Ohio. How far back can a landlord check for criminal records? I turned down an applicant down because of his drug history.

So technically throughout California, it is not yet prohibited from rejecting someone based on criminal history. But there are certain areas now, Berkeley and Oakland, and it's just a matter of time before this spreads, that does preclude landlords from rejecting tenants with criminal histories or even looking into the criminal histories.
